Anime North 2008

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Anime North was even bigger this year than last if you can believe it. There were people from all over there and because I wore a Trent U t-shirt I met a few fellow Trent students there as well. I was also able to run into a few of the artists I’d seen on deviantArt in person.

I only went one day this year but that doesn’t mean I have fewer photos to share with you; in fact I have more. This can probably be attributed to the fact that I’ve moved into the world of digital SLR cameras with the Nikon D60. A “pro-sumer” camera, the Nikon D60 combines many of the features which make the D80 great with a light and easy to use package which I’m quite enjoying so far. Of course, the price is right too.

Thank you, Trent & NIN

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

So it finally arrived. I could not be having a better day.

I’ve just finished a promising project mock up at work which the client is already excited about, and so are we. After talking with a very helpful fellow at Canada Post in town and running all over town I was able to pick up my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3. Perhaps I’ll have something to say about that later, the best is yet to come.

I ran all over town to get my new video game but my baby, my pride and joy is an album called Ghosts I-IV. I was not even expecting that package to arrive for a few weeks considering NIN.com et al are doing this sans record label as far as I know.

Why did I pay $5 extra to get a copy of NIN Ghosts I-IV? Simply put, I love it. I’ve been in love since the moment NIN.com offered up Ghosts I for free and I downloaded it. I needed to own it. I needed my own physical copy.

Do I want the pretty pictures included? Yes, yes I do. Do I want a shiny new CD? No, not really. It doesn’t mean much to me what condition the disc is in as long as it plays. I simply wanted to own a copy which I could thrash the living hell out of. Its open now.

The first track reminds me of “A warm place” from the downward spiral. From that moment on it becomes progressively harsher with different moods for each piece - all set to scenery included with the disc. It really is an interesting project and I highly recommend you check it out. :D
